How is Rhinoplasty surgery performed?
For patients requiring treatment for the tip of their nose, (called a rhinotip) and or nostrils then this procedure is normally done under local anaesthetic. Patients will be treated in a clinic environment and are free to go home shortly after treatment. In the case of full corrective nose surgery involving bridge of nose, nose tip and nostrils then a general anaesthetic is required. For patients requiring other regions treated, such as internal septum (called septorrhinoplasty), then your cosmetic surgeon will be able to advise on a case by case basis which form of anaesthetic would be most appropriate for you.
How long will Rhinoplasty Surgery take?
All patients who undergo general anaesthetic will require an overnight stay in hospital and are recommended to have a minimum of 1 week vacation from work. For patients receiving treatment under local anaesthetic are able to return to the home straight after their time in the clinic and be able to return to normal activities after a few days when they feel comfortable to do so as this is classified as a minor surgical procedure.

How long is the recovery period for Rhinoplasty surgery?
Patients who undergo either general or local anaesthetic procedures are likely to experience bruising and swelling that may last for days after the procedure. The extent to the bruising could latest for anything from 2 to 14 days depending on the extent of the correction surgery undertaken and the patients own susceptibility to bruising generally. Once the swelling subsides camouflage make up can be applied to cover most of the residual bruising. Consequently, we recommend that patients who undergo rhinoplasty make the necessary provision in their calendar for possible prolonged bruising and take an amount of time off work as they think necessary. Patients may experience a stiffness of the nose and slight post-operative swelling for sometime after the procedure.
Are there any side effects after Rhinoplasty surgery?
Bruising and swelling in the eye and in the higher cheek region are common immediately after surgery. Slight swelling and stiffness may occur inside and/or outside the nose which could last for a few month before it disappears completely.
As with any procedure, slight discomfort after your treatment will occur however this can normally be managed with over the counter pain killers.
