Who will liposuction benefit?

Liposuction is a body contouring procedure and not a weight loss procedure suitable for patients grossly over weight. Liposuction is extremely effective in removing stubborn fat deposits that do not respond to exercise or dieting. Patients considering liposuction should think in terms of changing their shape as opposed to loosing weight.

Areas that are eligible for liposuction are jawline, neck, upper arms, male chest, stomach, love handles, back, buttocks, inner and outer thighs, knees. Liposuction is useful for those looking to kick start a body contouring programme. You can telephone us or book online (online form) to arrange your consultation with our clinicians and see if you are a suitable candidate for liposuction.

How is Liposuction performed?

There are different types of procedures that remove fatty tissue. Liposuction can be performed :

a) Under general anaesthetic, whereby the patient is asleep. Then a tube is inserted into the target area and the solid fat cells are broken up and then sucked out. This is traditional liposuction.

b) Under local anaesthetic, whereby the patient is awake but given injections to numb the area. The fat is melted using a laser after making a small incision, this procedure is called laser lipolysis. The melted fat can be broken down by the body over a period of time.

c) Alternatively, the majority of the laser melted fat can be aspirated (sucked out) at the time of the laser lipolysis. The most popular laser for melting the fat is Smartlipo or sometimes called Smart Lipo. The procedure carried out under local  aneasthetic has many advantages over the general anesthetic mainly due to reduced downtime and affordability.

How long will liposuction take?

Traditional Liposuction requires general anaesthetic, so an overnight stay is required in hospital. Laser Lipolysis just requires a local anaesthetic, so you can go home straight after the procedure.
